Welcome, new Hokies! We're here to tell you everything you need to know about Virginia Tech and life here in Blacksburg. Here's the big stuff:
1. Maroon and orange DO go together. You'll get used to it.
2. You're a Hokie now. We're all Hokies, and we stick together. What is a Hokie? The word "Hokie" came from an old cheer. It turned into a nickname for VT fans, but now its kind of a state of mind. Our mascot is Hokie Bird, who is actually a turkey.
3. We love our teams, our school and our town and we are l-o-u-d about it. We also wear our colors just about every day.
4. If the sign says "You will be towed", you WILL be towed. When it comes to parking here, don't mess.
5. For a good burger, we suggest Mike's. For a beverage we recommend Big Al's. There are also lots of great merchants downtown, including a farmer's market. Buy local!
